One positive note is that police may finally be getting more funding – possibly up to £620 million next year, writes Ipswich Council Leader, David Ellesmere.
Unfortunately, two thirds of that will get swallowed up on increased pension payments with no improvements to frontline policing.
The other bad news is that most of the money will be coming from increased Council Tax. Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner element could increase by 13%.
This is the Tories’ latest wheeze: only provide increased funding through higher Council Tax so others take the blame.
The fact that it is going to be Conservative-run Suffolk County Council and the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner who will be whacking up our bills seems to have passed them by…
